Off the Grid with the whole Cox Cable thing

It's been about a month now that I got so fed up with Cox Cable I decided to dump them for my cable provider. I hired Mr. Antenna to come put up my antenna....yup one of the old fashioned ones that goes on your roof. I actually had Cox come out and put in all their little mini boxes they said we all needed but the day they did that it took them about 11 hours and they left my house with my main TV with NO picture at all ...and they knew it. All my TV's worked fine when they came in and and when they left it was pathetic. That night one of my TV's upstairs lost cable and I decided right there...all the mini boxes and Cox can go to hell. So for the past 6 or more years I have had a subscription to Netflix and Hulu which runs me about $15 a month which gives me more than enough movies and TV shows to watch and my Mr. Antenna gives me over 40 channels which includes all the local networks and can I just say the reception is so much better than Cox ever was? I'm so happy with my decision to ditch Cox for TV that I had to share .....I'm even saving $80 plus dollars a month!

Happy Campers

Another successful time at Camp Silverpines this year. Mt. Charleston is so beautiful this time a year and I have be so lucky to have been invited  to teach at this Camp for the past 4 years. Each year it gets better and better. This year Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick joined us at camp, she worked side by side with us and also played side by side. Besides teaching my normal classes each day I also taught a "staff class" that Marilyn attended and we worked  on well past midnight.
There were so many activities this year, we had wine tasting ...really good night, live entertainment and dancing both nights, archery classes, jewelry classes, yoga, picked ball, high ropes, craft classes, painting classes, cooking classes, not to mention our local weatherman Nate Tannenbaum and the crew from the Mob Museum came up to give really fun and interesting talks. We had the Las Vegas astronomy club come up one evening with the really big telescopes, There were so many other things it would make your head spin as a matter of fact our biggest complaint was we had so many great activities they couldn't choose. Until next year campers, thanks for a great time.

Congratulation's Ronna

Bad Boys Bad Boys!! So happy for my buddy Ronna who just retired from Metro after serving our city for 25 years. Thank you Ronna for including me in your special day, it was so nice to see such a huge turnout...I was wondering who was protecting our city as it seem that every cop in town was there to celebrate you. Everyone had the nicest things to say about Ronna and her management style, it was clear to me that she was well respected and loved at Metro and that the department will be feeing her absence. This was the celebration at the Detention Center with all her co workers but last night she had a big shin dig on the other side of town and yet again a great turn out. Beautiful room with a wonderful buffet and open bar. All her friends were there to celebrate her and the slide show they put together was priceless. She was such a baby when she started.
Wishing you the best in your new adventures and so happy for you that you now can do all the things your have always wanted to do.
What a baby she was when she started

These guys are in the photo above, they were all on the same squad back in the day, how cool is that?

Tarzan in Tuachan

Took my annual trip to Tuachan a 2 weeks ago to see the play Tarzan. Tuachan is just outside St. George Utah and is a great little outdoor theater. The play wasn't the best I've seen there but the ambiance is so great who really cares? Plus who doesn't have the best time on a girls weekend? Yup it was the Woman Wood Warriors out on the town and having a great time. I am so lucky to have the greatest friends...thanks guys can't wait to go back in October.

Ya Gotta Love Vegas

Last weekend I went to the Palazzo Theater to see Clint Holmes new show "Between the Lines" a fabulous show but then what did I expect? it's Clint Holmes the entertainer of the year for many years here in Las Vegas. The show was fantastic but show room blew me away, it's old style vegas with comfy sofas and jazz club style tables and chairs. Love that room

This weekend I was back at the Palazzo theater to see the show BAZ the show that comes on right before Clint and uses the same room. BAZ is a tribute to 3 movies/love stories...2 of the classics, Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge....LOVED all 3 or of these love stories. The show was very avant Gard...very artsy so different and really good except ....the band was so loud you couldn't really hear any of the dialog or hear the words of the songs. I know all these stories very well so I could follow along but bless the people who didn't, they were lost. Maybe it was just something off that night..hope so. If you are looking for something different to do go see this one.

Another Great night of music

Wow!! if you never caught a Frankie Moreno show do it while you can and while he is at the Smith Center. This is the second time I have seen him and he and his band just blow me away. This show is NOT to be mistake for the "Frank Marino Diva" show...these are 2 different entertainers with the same last name but spelled different and VERY different shows, people always think they are one in the same NOT. Frankie's show is amazing he really knows how to get his crowd going and keeps the energy in the show room at the highest high.... and can you say charisma? He has got "IT". A great night out, he has a few more shows at the Smith Center in the que, go check him out you will be glad you did ...and oh, he is at the Cabaret theater at the Smith Center

Some Guys Have All The Luck...and charisma

Another great night, went to see Rod Stewart on Sunday night, the show was fantastic! I was so excited to share the evening with some great friends, my friend Lynn is an old high school buddy that I haven't seen it 40 years she was in town and I was so happy we were able to spend 2 nights together and share the memories of our childhood and what better way to do that but with the music from our childhood...Rod was just the perfect concert to share. I saw this concert about a year and a half ago and his show just keeps getting better and better. So much fun catching up with you Lynn and it's always a fun night with the Scott's too.

My First UBER...and it won't be my last

So Last night I was on a mission to kidnap some very good friends who have done so much for me this past year and half, I wanted to treat them to a evening out. We met up at Bahama Breeze for an amazing dinner, hint...get the spicy jerk chicken dinner, it was to die for. I had told them not to plan anything for the evening because I had them captured for the night. After dinner we went out front and I called my very first UBER to take us to the Mirage to see the new Beatle Love show. The Uber App is amazing, it took 2 min for our Uber driver to arrive in what looked like a brand new car, our driver was a super sweet girl who drives for both Uber and Lyft on the weekends and has a full time job during the day. The ride on the strip was great since Streisand was in town last night the strip traffic was terrible. It took us about 5 min to get from the restaurant to the Mirage and the total bill for 3 people as $6.90...you can't get a taxi for 3 people for that people!! The Uber driver told us when we were ready to get a ride back to our cars to go to the North Valet at the Mirage and there is a Uber Pick up right there. It was so simple, we walked back to the area opened the Uber app and requested a car and 1 min later ...Whaa la we are on our way back to get our cars. LOVE Uber and so glad I finally tried it out, set up a free Uber account before you need it. They will ask you for your form of payment, I like to use Pay Pal so after the ride is over you will get a notification on your phone that Uber has been paid...and OH before you take your ride you can get a free estimate on what it will cost so there are no surprises.

The Best Weekend Ever

Last weekend I went to San Diego to spend time with a few old friends...well they are not THAT old they are my age LOL but we have been buddies for 48 years!! Wow how many people are as lucky as I am? We had another very close friend that passed away 21 years ago at the age of 41 of Leukemia, I used to spend my days at her house with her and her family. We haven't seen her mother & sister for 21 years and decided to surprise her....and what a surprise it was. Patty we love you, we miss you and we thank you for all the days you put up with us all. The weekend was full of laughter when you put Judi and I together and then well throw our friend Avis in there...there was no stopping us. Thank you thank you thank you Judi for this weekend and so many years of friendship.

Aloha

Just back from Hawaii and back into the Vegas heat. It was so great to be back in Hawaii and see all the kids, grandkids and my now 1 year old great grandson. I can't believe it has been a year already that I was holding Caleb at 3 month old...time goes so fast. My main reason for my trips to Hawaii is to celebrate Greg's birthday with his kids. Last year was sad and so hard when we were all together to spread is ashes and saying our final goodbyes. Lots and lots of tears and hugs that day. This year I wanted to change the mood of his birthday and our time together and start a new tradition. We all went back down to the same beach and took the flowers off leis and spread them in the ocean then we got in a big circle and held hands and sang at the top of our lungs "Happy Birthday" Yep this year there were still lots of tears and hugs but also there was also just a tiny bit of laughter too.

My crazy life

I can't believe I haven't posted in awhile and so much happened in the month of April starting with the annual Glass and Bead Expo at the South Point the first weekend of April. The show is always such a good one and I you can find me working in the Art Clay World booth. It was so nice to see everyone again and to meet new people. This years was the first year I actually took time out to take a class with Melissa Muir on how to use and create great jewelry with a hydraulic press....yes of course I bought one and they shipped it for the show. I love my new purple press!
The  following weekend was the Dirty Girl 5K mud run in Arizona. What a blast!! this run is for woman only- no men allowed! We had a team of 6, or name is 5 Chicks and a Peep, the run is a obstacle course where we had to climb over, tunnel under and slide down so many bouncy things that all lead you right into a big mud pit. For such a great cause and it was a weekend of pure joy and laughter with a great group of friends. Thanks guys for dragging me kicking and screaming into this crazy event I can't wait till we do it all again next year.
The following week I was working with our local Fire Station serving up pancakes at our annual open house, lots of great things to see and do and many local companies on hand to answer questions, was such a great turn out with so many of the local community getting involved.
Then there were many shows at the Smith Center that I took in and did I mention that same week I had the huge garage sale (thanks everyone who helped so much especially my dear sister/friend Sylvia who flew out from Tucson just to help).
That was all in April but in May things didn't show down one bit I had company from California for a few days and my sister from Portland came out for a week so she and I to do a trunk show at our local Knit shop. Also went to see several shows courtesy of House Seats....it's been crazy but looks like June will be getting back to normal....stay tuned.

Trunk Show

Okay thats me at the very top...this was scary

Turned on

OMG I bought a lathe a week ago and nothing else is getting done around here. Love this wood turning stuff. This week I've made a lot of mistakes and have done a lot of practicing and finally have 3 projects to show for it. The eagle pen is all inlay and the other two projects are seam rippers.

Rich Little In Las Vegas

Last night I was out with friends to see Rich Little at the Tropicana...remember Rich Little from the 70's-80's? Seems like he worked with everyone one who was anyone in "The day". I had a few good friends who had said they wanted to see his show so I told them I would pick up my House Seats tickets and we would all go. What a nice surprise, his show was fabulous! He is so talented and still so funny. If you haven't seen him and you live in Vegas try to take in this show you won't be disappointed.

Cabaret at The Smith Center

After a seriously fun morning my head still reeling of tools, colors and all the possibilities of wood turning how could I expect anything more than that? I spent the evening at the Smith Center Cabaret theater. Invited by some very good friends out for dinner and an amazing night of music with Clint Holmes and Domenick Allen. Only my second time seeing a Clint Holmes show and each show I know I am becoming a fan ...one more show and I think it classifies me as a groupie. Joined on stage was his very good friend Domenick Allen and wow! the two together are so great together. Each month Clint Holmes plays and brand new show with a theme, last time I saw him he played all James Taylor music and last night it was all music about different cities, states and countries ...all songs we know and love. The balance between the two musicians was magic, besides singing Domenick also played the flute and Sax. Loved that show and can't wait to see Clint in April. If you haven't seen a show in that little Cabaret theater you are really missing out. Thank you so much once again Betty and Steve my day was full of happiness and music...Love those kind of days.

Seriously Fun Day

What a fun day today! was able to take a semi-private wood turning class today from an excellent teacher...thanks Ken and Gisele. We started with a chunk of wood and turned it into a beautiful pen, mine is on the left and Gisele's is on the right. The entire process was amazing, I can't believe I made such a beautiful thing.

Thanks Ronna had such a fun time and I am glad we decided to "roll the dice" and brave the weather.

Whirl Wind Weekend...too much fun

What a fun fun 24 hours with my California bestie of 48 years. Judi flew in from San Diego Saturday morning so she could take my Sunday morning class and boy did we cram a lot into that short visit. One of the things we did was took in the Beatles Cirque show. I had seen it 10 years ago when if first opened and Judi had never seen it. Great seats and the show is so fun, who doesn't know and love every Beatle song ever written. Can't wait for the next adventure.
